AboutRob

Glasgow/London-based drummer Rob Shearer has a vast amount of studio recording and live stage experience and is known for his grooves and unique style of drumming.

"A fantastic drummer with excellent natural rhythm, timing and feel, great knowledge of the drum kit and other percussion instruments".

Rob has a great internal metronome and plays well to click tracks, great management and communication skills, networking, sight-reading, transposing, writing and arrangements. Seeking work as a live studio/performing  session  musician or some music-related capacity.

Rob started playing drums from a very young age, but began seriously studying music from around age twelve. A Session and Freelance musician from Glasgow in Scotland, Rob studied as a Percussionist and Drummer during his High School years at Lenzie Academy where he also gained experience playing in Orchestras, Wind Bands and Jazz Orchestras.

Upon leaving school in 2010 - having gained an Advanced Higher qualification in Music and Sound Production - Rob studied Music at James Watt College in Greenock, receiving a Higher National Certificate Award at the conclusion of the course.

Since seriously beginning to study Drums and Percussion in 2004, Rob has played with dozens of bands and organisations around the UK, ranging from solo artists, to tribute artists, to function and wedding bands.

As experienced in the recording studio as he is on stage, Rob has years of experience recording material for different artists, ranging from demos to albums. This has seen him record in studios across the country as well as further afield in Europe, including studios in London, Liverpool, Glasgow and also in France. Rob's vast knowledge of musical styles has seen him in demand in many organisations of different musicals styles, ranging from R'n'B, Groove, Rock, Pop, Blues and Funk to Jazz, Swing, Orchestral and Folk.

In 2012, Rob was asked to become a permanent member of the rock band "Mercury Underground" and within months of joining, the band supported Adrenaline Mob and Voodoo Six - the former which features Mike Portnoy (Ex-Dream Theater) and Russell Allen (Symphony X) - at King Tut's in Glasgow.

Making further progress, Rob joined the Glasgow band Taylor Red in 2012 with whom he wrote, recorded and released an E.P in early 2013. In this time he also gigged extensively with the band on the Glasgow circuit, before making a move to London in 2015. Since then, he has appeared on albums by artists such as SLATER and Essex blues guitarist Connor Selby, with whom he gigs extensively around the country. However despite this, Rob enjoys working frequently with his friends in the Glasgow-based rhythm section "Interstate" with whom he is currently recording and producing their debut album.

In July of 2019, with the Connor Selby Band, Rob was given the opportunity to perform at Wembley Stadium in London, opening for The Who and sharing the stage with such bands as Imelda May, Eddie Vedder and The Kaiser Chiefs.
